I never quite understood what Syaoran meant here, I understand that Fei Wong wouldn’t have meddled in Fai and Yuui’s life if not for him rewinding time, but how would that affect Fai(Yuui) being born a twin?

If that was true and Yuui was born alone, I’m sure it would have been a sad and lonely life, being with people who don’t love him. And never knowing the love he and his brother had for each other. As twisted as it sounds its almost better that Fai and Yuui were born together even if it meant Fai and that world would die in the end.

Also isn’t Syaoran assuming Yuui would have been the one born in the first place? What if instead of Yuui it was Fai born and not Yuui. By that logic Fai(Yuui) might not have even been born if Syaoran didn’t rewind time.

It is very possible that what Syaoran is implying is that the real Fai might have been a human that was not meant to exist (much like Watanuki was) and might have been created by the time loop. In the same way Watanuki was a being created by the turning back of time, and he also was not meant to exist. And at some point, I believe it was discussed that Watanuki made attempts to “erase” himself subconsciously so that Syaoran would be promised survival in difficult situations (though that might have been an error in interpretation and translation). Which wouldn’t be too far off the mark of what the real Fai did for his brother, so that’s probably what Syaoran is basing his statement off of.

Though I think Fai(Yuui) probably came to the same conclusion you did after that. I don’t think either of the twins would have lived without the other, if they’d had a chance. I think, having been born alone, Fai(Yuui) definitely would not have been the same character we know and love, and he probably would have lived an even sadder and lonelier life than he already had. (I mean this IS a CLAMP series we are talking about here.)

But yeah, Syaoran is being pretty presumptuous here. Which I believe comes up a bit later, when Fai (Yuui) calls him arrogant for taking all the blame, hahaha. So I think CLAMP’s point WAS to have him make these kinds of not entirely logical presumptions about what had happened had he not broken a taboo because he feels a bit guilty about it. And then he needs a lesson in letting go and growing stronger just as much as the others did.

well, this is all sorts of inspirational, fic-wise.
